THE STORY

WATERTOWN, Wis. -- PR's were abundant at the 2017 Wisconsin Private College Championships this afternoon, as not even a heavy rainstorm could slow down the Sabercats. The men's team recorded their best finish in the event to date, and multiple runners set their best time this season while some set a PR.

Due to inclement weather, the two races started at the same time, making for a high-traffic day on the trails of Brandt-Quirk Park.

On the men's side, the squad recorded their best finish in the event to date, and multiple runners set their best time this season while 2 set a PR.

Jeremiah Doak paced the squad in the 8K with a time of 28:38. That time was good enough for a 25th-place finish and the 5th-fastest time in MBU program history.

Cameron Rankin came in just 2 seconds behind Doak, and the junior set his own personal record by ousting his time of 28:58 from the Sabercat Invitational in 2015. Wagner, Kruit, and Williams rounded out the top 5, and each runner set their best time this season.

On the women's side, Sarah Vander Pluym paced the women's squad with a time of 27:26 and a 34th-place finish. Hansel came in a few places behind Vander Pluym with a time of 27:41 - not even 20 seconds off of her personal record. Heins, Wigdal and Marten rounded out the women's squad on a wet and wild day.

THE SOUND BITE

"I was very pleased with the results that the team's produced on Saturday after all of the hard training that has been done," said Coach Isaiah Steinbart after the meet. "[I] was super excited to see several of the guy's PR despite the less than ideal conditions that they ran in. This meet was a great encouragement to the teams, by giving them confidence going into their final meet before we head off to Nationals."

THE CALENDAR

The next meet for both squads will be next Friday at the Oshkosh Open at Lake Breeze Country Club in Winneconne, Wisconsin. The men's squad will begin the day at 1:15 p.m. Catch the details at mbusabercats.com/composite.
