No Way Out

Sabercats find themselves in a first quarter hole too deep to climb out of, leading to a 40-82 loss at Faith.

ANKENY, Iowa -- Despite a dominate third quarter for the Sabercats who, outscored their opponents 21-8, the Eagles had already sealed their victory having jumped out to a 56-19 lead going into halftime.

Paige Joiner led Maranatha once again, finishing with 16 points. Kyria Teachout had another great night on the boards, grabbing 12 rebounds for her team while Lillian Cook and Lindsay Mikkelson each chipped in 8.

STORY
Faith frazzled Maranatha right off the bat with an aggressive press that took Paige Joiner out of the picture with a tough double-team match up. Thrown off guard, the Sabercats struggled to handle the ball, turning the ball over 14 times in the first 10 minutes of play.

The Eagle's took advantage of every turnover opportunity, running the floor and finishing at the rim to almost seal the game after one quarter with a 34-5 start.

But something changed in the Sabercats after halftime, and they came out with fire in their eyes. The tables were turned on Faith, as it was Maranatha who was now bringing the pressure, forcing 7 turnovers from the Eagles.

Joiner was able to find some space between her defenders for the first time all game and aggressively went for the basket with every opportunity she had, earning 15 of her total 16 points in the single quarter.

In just 10 minutes, Maranatha had turned things into a game, outscoring Faith 21-8 and bringing the score to 64-40 (Faith).

But this newfound energy diminished in the fourth quarter and the Sabercats failed to find the basket again. The eagles expanded their score to 82, finishing off the Sabercats for the second time in program history.
