STORY
Paige Joiner took the responsibility of scoring on her shoulders, locking in eight points in the first quarter alone to keep the Sabercats in it. Joiner's eight points helped to make it a tight contest, with the Eagles leading 14-13 after the opener.
But the momentum quickly abated for the Sabercats, who saw Emmaus leap out to a 28-19 lead by halftime. The chances were there for the Sabercats but the connections were not, as Maranatha hit less than 20 percent of their shots in the opening half. Besides that, Emmaus collected 10 more rebounds than Maranatha in the opening 20 minutes, giving the visitors that advantage.
Not much changed coming out of the halftime team talks. Emmaus increased their lead to 17 points, forcing Coach
Paul Brown to call a timeout just over four minutes into the half.
Things got interesting in the fourth quarter when a couple of fast-break buckets from Joiner made it a 10-point game, but that was the closest the Sabercats would come for the remainder. A parting jumper from
Lindsay Mikkelson made it a 10-point game onnce again, but Emmaus already had what they came for.
