Williams Has their Way

Sabercats drop twinbill at Williams Baptist

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. -- The Sabercats had some bright spots today but ultimately couldn't offset an 11-run showing from Williams Baptist in both games of today's twinbill, falling on a Wednesday afternoon in Arkansas.

The Sabercats will continue their spring trip tomorrow with a trip to Carlinville, Illinois and a doubleheader with Blackburn College beginning at 12:00 P.M.

OVERVIEW

  • Game One Results: Maranatha 1-11 Williams Baptist
  • Game Two Results: Maranatha 3-11 Williams Baptist
  • Venue: Shell Field
  • Location: Walnut Ridge, Arkansas
  • Records: MBU (2-10), WBU (20-10)

STORY
The first game of the day wasn't without its opportunities, as the Sabercats stranded runners in scoring position in 4 of their 7 at-bats as a team. The only damage Maranatha could do was an unearned run in the top of the 7th inning, which wasn't enough to offset 11 runs from Williams Baptist, as they avoided the shutout with their final opportunity.

Despite the loss, Maranatha recorded 7 base hits. Joe Anderson and Teddy Haugen both logged multiple hits in the first game of the doubleheader.

The Sabercats got off to a fast start in the second game, jumping out to a 3-0 lead thanks to an RBI double to left-center from Emerson Pease and an RBI single from Don Wheeler. Williams Baptist answered with authority, however, scoring 3 runs in each of the first two innings before adding 5 in the fifth, taking an 11-3 win. Pease was the only Sabercat with multiple hits in the second game, adding a single to his first-inning RBI double.
