Big Night for Moultrie

Moultrie hits 1,000 career points in loss to UW-Stout

LEAD

MENOMONIE, Wis. -- A couple of early Caleb Moultrie free throws pushed him past the 1,000 career-points mark tonight at UW-Stout, and a bright performance from Will Schultz were a couple of high points the Sabercats had to celebrate in a 74-106 loss to the Blue Devils tonight.

Schultz registered 25 points and 12 boards on the night while Moultrie's big moment came as part of a 13-point performance. Brody Fox led the Blue Devils with 27 points on the night.

OVERVIEW

  • Result: Maranatha 74-106 UW-Stout
  • Venue: Johnson Fieldhouse - University of Wisconsin Stout
  • Location: Menomonie, Wis.
  • Attendance: 152
  • Records: MBU (0-3), UWS (1-2)

STORY

Will Schultz pushed the Sabercats out to an early lead in the opening minutes, scoring 10 quick points to keep the Sabercats ahead before the first media timeout. The Blue Devils got into some foul trouble early and the Sabercats capitalized with nine points from the line in the first half. But Stout's high pressure paid off, as the hosts barely pushed ahead of Maranatha in the first half to hold a 52-44 lead going into the halftime break.

The second half was all one-way traffic, as the hosts improved their shot selection. The Blue Devils sunk 61 percent of their shots from the floor in the second half alone, going 5-11 from downtown. Maranatha's 13 turnovers contributed to 25 points for the hosts, who only had three turnovers in the second half, riding out to the finish with polished possession and pinpoint shooting.
