Scorched at Alverno

Maranatha closes out 2023 with a loss 33-71 loss to Alverno

LEAD

MILWAUKEE, Wis.-- Shooting less than 20 percent from the field on the night, Maranatha struggled to compete with Alverno who scored a season high. The Inferno put up 30 points from behind the three-point arc, leading them towards a 71-33 win over the Sabercats.

Paige Joiner scored almost a third of Maranatha's total points, finishing with 10 on the night. Esther Garren showed some aggression out on the court, leading the team and rebounds and earning her career-high 12.

OVERVIEW

  • Venue: Reiman Gymnasium - Alverno College
  • Location: Milwaukee, Wis.

STORY

Maranatha was outmatched for the second game in a row against another NCAA Dlll opponent. Alverno college has been averaging almost the exact same points-per-game as Maranatha on the season, leading the Sabercats to think it would be a fairly even match-up. However, hopes of it being a close game quickly went out the door as the Inferno came out red hot beyond the three point line.

While Maranatha finished with only 10 successful baskets in the game, Alverno went 10-22 just from beyond the three. The Inferno put up their best numbers of the season finishing with 71 points on the night.

For the Sabercats, things weren't going as good. While they creating plenty of shot opportunities, Maranatha once again could not seem to get the ball to fall. They finished going only 19.6 percent from the field. Paige Joiner was the only one to get into double-digits on the night, finishing with 10 points.

With the 33-71 loss, Maranatha closed out 2023. They will return to work following New Years Days, kicking off 2024 at Mount Mary University on January 6th.
