MILWAUKEE, Wis.-- Maranatha started off the New Year this afternoon on the road against Mount Mary. But the Sabercats failed to get the job done, falling 45-74 to the Blue Angels.

Sarah Ureke finished with her second double-double of the season. She recorded 14 points and 10 rebounds. Katelyn Brown also chipped in 14 points in the game.

OVERVIEW

  • Result: Maranatha 45-74 Mount Mary
  • Venue: Bloechl Center - Mount Mary University
  • Location: Milwaukee, Wis.
  • Attendance:
  • Records: MBU (4-8), MMU (8-8)

STORY

It wasn't the start to the New Year that Maranatha had hoped for, today at Mount Mary. The Blue Angels had a nice 15-point run in the first quarter that pulled them ahead to a 17-3 lead. But the Sabercats got a little boost of energy and fought to bring the deficit to just seven points at the end of the first quarter (17-10 MMU).

Maranatha fought hard to keep the deficit to single digits in the second quarter. Katelyn Brown found her spark in these 10 minutes of play, scoring nine-points. But in the final minute of the half, the Blue Angels were able to extend their cushion to 16 points.

Mount Mary came out of half-time picking up where they left off, putting the game out of reach for Maranatha. The Sabercats stayed consistent in the second half, finishing with 10 points in each quarter. But it wasn't enough to earn a win as they fell 45-74.

Maranatha is working to adjust their style of play as they are facing this semester with three less players due to injuries and other circumstances. Both small in size and in numbers, the Sabercats are experimenting with some new strategies with hopes of opening some scoring opportunities for more players.

Despite today's loss, the Sabercats showed some promise for the semester as all but two players made it on the board. Sarah Ureke led the Sabercats all around on the night, earning her second career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Brown matched Ureke's points and added seven rebounds of her own.
