WATERTOWN, Wis. — Today was "the one that got away," as the Sabercats completely outplayed the Andrews University Cardinals but tied 3-3.

Michael Doese increased his goal tally this season to 9 by scoring two goals, and Robbie Lemon added the other goal - his third of the season. Pedro and Matheus Ribeiro provided the assists for Maranatha, who out-shot Andrews 22-10 on the day.

STORY

The Sabercats put Plan A into motion in the first four minutes, as Michael Doese zig-zagged into the Andrews penalty area and slid a finish into the bottom corner for the 1-0 lead.

From there, the Sabercats completely controlled the game, creating multiple chances to increase the lead but coming up short. Just before halftime, Matheus Ribeiro passed it to Robbie Lemon at the top of the box, who cut to his right foot to deliver the second of the day, giving the Sabercats a 2-0 lead going into the locker room.

At halftime, the Cardinals had registered just a single shot.

The second half seemed to be going all the Sabercats way, as the hosts created more chances right out of halftime even with the heavy wind in their face. Clayton Miller smashed a shot off the crossbar for what would have been his first career goal, and the Sabercats were held at 2.

Against the run of play, the Cardinals pounced on a couple of Sabercats errors in the back, and suddenly, the game was tied at 2-2 in the 75th minute.

Sensing the urgency, Doese scored again immediately to restore the lead. The sophomore touched a Pedro Ribeiro pass on to his left foot before burying his finish in the left corner for the 3-2 lead.

But right away, the Cardinals equalized, as Joshua Bell hit a laser from 23 yards out into the upper corner.

That was the final chance of the game. The Sabercats pushed for the winner late in the game, but ultimately were forced to chalk it up as the one that got away.
