Couldn't Hold On

Despite a strong start, Sabercats fall 3-12 to Mountaineers.

LEAD

BEREA, Ky. -- A strong start saw Maranatha leading 2-0 at the bottom of the third. But in just two innings Berea did what was needed to finish on top, beating the Sabercats 12-3.

Maranatha finished with five hits on the day with Brayden Kenny and Cameron Curcuro both recording an RBI.

Judson Martin started on the mound for the Sabercats, pitching 104 pitches and recording six strike-outs over a five inning span. Joe Anderson, who came in as relief for a single inning, struck out all three batters faced.

OVERVIEW

  • Result: Maranatha 3-12 Berea
  • Venue: Berea College Baseball Field
  • Location: Berea, Ky.
  • Records: MBU (0-14), BC (5-11)

STORY

After a scoreless first two innings for both teams, Maranatha earned two runs at the top of the third to take the lead. But things took turn for worse at the bottom of the fourth as the Mountaineers got the hang of things at the plate. Berea recorded four doubles in the inning which helped earn them a 5-2 lead.

Maranatha was unable to close the gap during their next at bat, leaving their two potential runs stranded on base. Berea, on the other hand, continued to show strength at the plate. They recorded another five hits and added six runs to their total in the bottom of the fifth.

The Sabercats were able earn one more run at the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough to keep the game going, rewarding Berea with a 12-3 win.
