WATERTOWN, Wis. -- The 2025 season was a year to remember for Maranatha Men's Soccer, who fought to an NCCAA Top-10 Ranking for the first time in six seasons, secured a dominant NCCAA record, grabbed regional headlines, and came close to a return trip to Nationals in the NCCAA picture.
The season started with a dominant performance in a 1-1 tie against Martin Luther, then the Sabercats grabbed their first win of the season 2-1 at Rockford University. Pedro Ribeiro scored the NCCAA Goal of the Month while the Sabercats won at Rockford for the first time since 2012.Â
After the Rockford win, the Sabercats eventually climbed into 7th in the NCCAA rankings, posting 4 straight wins (including the 350th win for the program) capped by a 1-0 win over sixth-ranked Faith Baptist.
After losing some steam towards the end of the season, the Sabercats began to play some of their most effective soccer going into the regional tournament. After a Robbie Lemon goal gave the Sabercats the win in the NCCAA Midwest Region semifinal, the Sabercats fell in a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Grace Christian University in the regional championship.
Coach Jeff Pill and Aaron Jones highlighted the regional awards, earning Coach and Player of the Year, respectively. Pedro Ribeiro and Cameron Beachell joined Jones on the All-Region First Team while Davin Johnson, Robbie Lemon, and Joseph Greene earned Honorable Mention Honors for the Midwest Region.
Fitting rewards for a deserving group.
"There was an energy about this team that was intoxicating for me to enjoy," said Coach Jeff Pill after the season. "The players improved their abilities to motivate themselves, and we were at the point where execution was demanded and rewarded."
The Sabercats will have key pieces to fill next year, as the following seniors left their final marks on the program:
Isaac Balyo, Cameron Beachell, Benjamin Bishop, Brayden Cox, Joshua Donovan, Joseph Greene, Aaron Jones, Robbie Lemon, Joe Shank, Hudson Sturm
