WATERTOWN, Wis. -- Edgewood College came into Watertown with an eye for the win on Tuesday night, sweeping the Sabercats in a hard-fought three-set match.
Isaiah Johnson led Maranatha's attack with 6 kills on the night, and the Sabercats' determined defense kept them in the game in sets two and three, as the squad showed positive signs in their home opener for the 2025 season.

STORY
The Eagles kept the Sabercats attack frustrated in the early goings, holding the Sabercats without a kill in the opening set. Maranatha kept things close in the opening exchanges but a 15-3 closing run from Edgewood ended the Sabercats' hopes of regaining the lead. After a 10-kill opening set from the Eagles, the first frame ended 25-12.
Edgewood was at their most prolific in the second set, as they posted a match-high 14 kills while holding the Sabercats to 7. Maranatha's feisty defense kept them in the set for the most part, as they put up a match-high 18 points in the second frame to make the Eagles second-guess themselves.
The final frame brought the finishing touches for the Eagles. The energy in the gym and the Sabercats' relentless efforts threw the Eagles off of their offensive rhythm, but ultimately, Edgewood saw the match to a close, winning 25-17 to sweep the match on the Maranatha campus.
Dazerien Hicks was the primary difference-maker for Edgewood with a team-best 9 kills, while Isaiah Johnson paced Maranatha with 6 in the match.
