Long Day at Eureka

Sabercats fall to Red Devils in Illinois.

EUREKA, Ill. -- The Sabercats struggled to find any sort of offensive momentum in a doubleheader at Eureka College, falling in a doubleheader to the red-hot Red Devils pitching.

Ethan McDonald highlighted a dominant day for the Red Devils' pitching staff, pitching a no-hitter (and nearly a perfect game) while logging 16 strikeouts in the second game of the day. The Sabercats will regroup and return to Eureka on Thursday for another chance at the Red Devils.

OVERVIEW

    • Maranatha 0-6 Eureka
    • Maranatha 0-25 Eureka
  • Venue: Henry Sand Field, Eureka College
  • Location: Eureka, Ill.

STORY
Colton Yanish brought his best stuff to the mount for Eureka in the opener, fanning the first six Sabercats he faced to kickstart momentum for the Red Devils. Eureka's Jon Leon Guerrero was the danger man at the plate in the first game, putting up a two-RBI double in the first inning to fuel a three-run at-bat for the hosts.

Maranatha's only hit of the game came in the fifth inning, which was an RBI single to right center for Don Wheeler. Eureka added two runs in the third and one more in the fifth to seal the 6-0 in the opener.

Ethan McDonald was seemingly an impossible mystery in the second game of the day, as he pitched a no-hitter for the Red Devils while striking out 16 batters. It was the first win of the 2025 season for McDonald, who would have had a perfect game if it wasn't for an error on Eureka's third baseman in the sixth inning.  Eureka was absolutely relentless in the second game, scoring 25 runs to take a commanding win.
