WATERTOWN, Wis. -- The Sabercats had some bright spots but eventually fell in their home opener to Clarke University on a windy day at Brandt-Quirk Park.
Grace Strauch had her first career home run after Bethany Searle's leadoff double, giving the Sabercats a temporary lead in the opening game of the day.
Cadence Scott, Ryleigh Bill, and Beka D'Oyley all logged hits in the third inning, fueling another 2-run showing for Maranatha, who found themselves up 4-1 going into the fourth. But ultimately, Clarke came storming back with 8 runs in the fourth and 9 runs in the seventh to seal the win. Searle capped the scoring, logging 2 hits for the Sabercats on the day, as her RBI single in the sixth inning brough home Dani Gaul and Racquelle Melville.
Clarke controlled the second game of the series, taking a 16-0 win after posting 10 runs in the top of the 1st. Karlee Transburg pitched a no-hitter for the Pride, keeping the Sabercats frustrated from start to finish.
