Axed Against Platteville

Sabercats Fall in doubleheader to Pioneers

MARION, Iowa -- The Sabercats were up against it yesterday in Iowa, taking two heavy losses to the Pioneers of Wisconsin-Platteville. The Sabercats got on the board for the first time this season in the second game of the series, but they couldn't overcome the consistency and depth of the Pioneer bats.

The Pioneers made a tidy job of it in the opening game, dispatching the Sabercats with 5 runs in the first inning and another 5 in the third. Jonathan Jeske, Teddy Haugen, Judson Martin, and Sebastian Martin all logged hits for the Sabercats, who couldn't conjure any runs to show for it.

The top of the third in the second game of the day was the best the Sabercats have looked all season at the plate. Emerson Pease led off with a double to center field, then an RBI single from Jeske and an RBI double from Sebastian Martin gave the Sabercats their first runs of the 2026 season. That was the only inning in which the Sabercats scored anything, however. Haugen tacked on a single a couple of innings later but the Pioneers inflicted some irreversible damage, knocking in 23 runs to sweep the double header with style.

In game one, Jordan Stanton was given the win for the Pioneers while Jonathan Jeske was given the loss for the Sabercats. In game two, Sam Callow grabbed the win for Platteville while Teddy Haugen had the loss for Maranatha.
