DE PERE, Wis. -- The Sabercats were frustrated in their season-opening series on the weekend, chalking up just 5 hits in 3 games against St. Norbert College, who swept the series with three consecutive shutouts.
Jace Midbon was the main man in the opening game, tossing his first career no-hitter in his first start this season. Midbon recorded 15 strikeouts on the day while the Green Knights dominated with a 17-0 win.
In the second game of the series, the Knights defended their home turf with a 30-run explosion as the Sabercats struggled on the defensive side. Tyler Murphy, Declan Kane, and Ethan Volz led the way for St. Norbert with three RBIs apiece. For Maranatha, Judson Martin registered a couple of hits while Teddy Haugen and Timothy Searle both added a single each.
The third game was the quietest for the host, who still managed to put up 12 runs in the contest. Martin spoiled the no-hitter for Charlie Gretz with a single in the top of the seventh. The main highlight for the hosts was a Charlie Dean 2-RBI triple in the 5th inning. Dean went 2-3 with a run scored and 2 RBIs in the final game of the weekend series.
