WATERTOWN, Wis. -- The Sabercats Men's Basketball Team had it's fair share of ups and downs this past season, culminating in a disappointing opening-round loss to Emmaus in the opening round of the NCCAA Midwest Region Tournament.
The regular season started well, as the Sabercats held on for an 87-84 win over Barclay before taking down Emmaus 73-69 in the home opener two games later. But a relentless eight-game stretch against NCAA DIII opponents was a wake-up call for the Sabercats, who fell to 2-10 by Christmas Break. After three losses to open 2026, the Sabercats started to shake up their season with a 72-70 win on the road against NCCAA eighth-ranked Kuyper. It was the first win over an NCCAA ranked opponent for Men's Basketball since 2019, and the Sabercats backed it up with a 98-70 thrashing of Moody Bible the next game.
Another tight win over Emmaus the following week meant three straight wins in the NCCAA Midwest Region, and the Sabercats were starting to view themselves as contenders in the regional scene when they took season sweeps over Kuyper and Moody at home in mid-February.
"This was the best group of guys I've gotten to coach yet," said Head Coach Rob Fuller at last week's winter/spring awards ceremony on the MBU campus. "These guys made it a joy of a year even though, as always, wins are always hard to come by. But we had a few sweet ones this year. Through all the ups and downs, these guys were top-notch guys and they made this season a joy."
