Kuyper Coup Spoils Midwest Region Clash

(RV) Kuyper takes 4-3 in Watertown.

WATERTOWN, Wis. -- Seven goals decorated the 90 minutes of an NCCAA Midwest matchup on Saturday in Watertown, as Kuyper College emerged the 4-3 victors to complete the season sweep over Maranatha.

Pedro Ribeiro was the danger man for Maranatha with two goals, and Cameron Beachell scored the other as the two sides traded chances on the day. This result did not influence the regular-season standings for the NCCAA Midwest Region, as this was a non-designated contest.

STORY
Kuyper got on the board right away with a deflected shot in the second minute, and added another goal just six minutes later to get off to a fast start.

Once the Sabercats collected their breath, chances came their way, and Cameron Beachell put the Sabercats on the board with a header - his third of the season - in the 17th minute from a Michael Doese cross. Four minutes after Beachell's goal, Pedro Ribeiro shoved a shot into the bottom corner from the top of the box to make it a 2-2 tie halfway through the first half. Already, the Midwest Region contest was an instant classic.

Halftime was a chance for the teams to collect their breath, and Eduardo Terazzas put Kuyper ahead just eight minutes after the break.

Back came Ribeiro, with a remarkable solo effort in the 65th minute. Matheus Ribeiro connected a pass to his brother with an aerial heelflick, and Pedro dribbled the ball over 50 yards - past two defenders - to set up a finish just inside the box for a mesmerizing equalizer. 3-3.

But just five minutes after that, Kuyper dealt the final blow of the day. Christian Bartee sent a low free kick into the box that bounced around to the feet of Terazzas, who slid in a close-range shot for the final goal of a wild afternoon in Watertown.
