STORY
Andrews "parked the bus" at times by putting most of their team deep in their defensive end, but that didn't stop the Sabercats from scoring early and often. Smith and Schroeder found space in the Cardinals' penalty area to score two teams each - putting the Sabercats up 5-0 early to make a commanding opening statement. Schroeder's goals came from the left side of the penalty area while Smith scored from close range both times. Smith provided the assist for Danelle Habegger in the first half to complete the scoring.
Going into halftime, the Sabercats had all of the shots, all of the goals, and all of the momentum.
After a couple of close chances went begging in the second half, Herrera broke through for the sixth goal around the one-hour mark. The grad student's shot came from the top of the box, as her first-time, right-footed shot went bouncing through traffic for her first career goal.
Byers' turn came with about 10 minutes left in the game, as she tapped in from close range from a Faith Dargy assist after a scrum in the Cardinals' penalty area.
It was an afternoon to remember for the Sabercats, who move back to 7-7 for the season.
