Sabercats Take Loss from Wisconsin Lutheran

Box Score

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- Despite one of their strongest performances of the season, the Sabercats couldn't do enough to take any sets from Wisconsin-Lutheran on their home court.

OVERVIEW

  • Final: Maranatha 0-3 Wisconsin Lutheran (17-25, 14-25, 17-25)
  • Venue: Time of Grace Center - Wisconsin Lutheran
  • Location: Milwaukee, Wis.
  • Records: MBU (0-14), WL (10-10)
STORY
The opening points of the game showed some promise for the Sabercats, with points being exchanged until the score reached 4-3. Despite a 4-point run from the Warriors, the Sabercats stayed within striking distance for the majority of the first set. Unfortunately, a 5-1 scoring run from the Warriors effectively put an end to the hopes of stealing the first match. The Sabercats scored a few more points before the close of the first set, and the final score stood at 17-25.

The start of the second set looked a bit more shaky for the Sabercats, who found themselves at an 8-2 disadvantage early on. Throughout the rest of the set, service errors plagued the Sabercats, as they gave up the serve, often as quickly as they gained it. At the conclusion of the set, the Warriors took another decisive victory, 25-14.

The last set felt different than the first two, as the Sabercats were the ones going on a scoring frenzy. After 11 points, the Sabercats held a 5-point lead for the first time all day. The Warriors would promptly tidy up their game play and take advantage of the Sabercats' errors, tying up the score at 9-9. A string of powerful serves from Trevor Salutric would put the Warriors back in the driver's seat for the rest of the set, forcing an identical score as the first set, 25-17. With a strong comeback, the Warriors took a straight-set win, completing the season sweep of the Sabercats.
