Panthers Pounce in Weekend Sweep

Sabercats Take Three Losses from Principia

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3

Elsah, Ill. -- The Sabercats are still on the hunt for their first win of the season, and they looked to break their losing streak as they took on Principia College in three games. The Sabercats were ultimately disappointed as they took three losses at Cheatham Stadium.
OVERVIEW

  • Game 1: Maranatha 0-13 Principia
  • Game 2: Maranatha 5-15 Principia
  • Game 3: Maranatha 3-19 Principia
  • Venue: Cheatham Stadium
  • Location: Elsah, Illinois
  • Records: MBU (0-16), PC (5-14)
STORY
The Sabercats struggled in their first of three weekend games, failing to score a point. The Sabercats had three hits on the game - 2 from Judson Martin and 1 from Jonathan Jeske.
The Panthers, however, wasted no time in scoring runs, as they scored 3 runs in the 1st inning. They would go on to take the first game, 13-0. Judson Martin pitched for the Sabercats, while Tyler Baggiore was given the win for Principia.

The second game was the Sabercats' best showing of the weekend, despite the loss. Principia began the scoring with 5 runs in the 1st and 2nd innings alone. The Sabercats earned their first run of the day, as Jonathan Jeske scored an RBI, bringing Emerson Pease home. The Sabercats would go on a scoring drought until the 6th inning. At that point, the Sabercats sprang to life, scoring 4 runs. But that wouldn't be enough to complete the comeback. The Panthers had already scored too much, too often, bringing their run tally to 15. By the end of the game, the final score stood at 15-5 in Principia's favor.

In the contest, the Sabercats posted some solid stats, as Emerson Pease led the Sabercats with a career-high 4 hits, never striking out in his 4 at-bats. Reece Martin, Jonathan Jeske, Sebastian Martin, Tim Searle, and Robbie Trautman each pitched in a hit. Robbie Trautman recorded his first RBIs of his career, while Tim Searle earned his first RBI of the season. Jonathan Jeske was given the loss, while Principia's Logan Cadey pitched the win for the Panthers.

But the momentum stopped there. The Sabercats gave up 13 runs in the first three innings of the last game, leaving them a long road toward a comeback. Although they were able to slow the bleeding, the Sabercats' 3-run effort wasn't enough to get the win on Saturday.
