DeLozier Earns 200th Win, Sabercats Split MSOE Tri

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MILWAUKEE – The Sabercats came away from the MSOE Tri-Match with a win and a loss, which has been the theme this year when the team has visited Milwaukee. After falling to Macalaster in four sets, the Sabercats pulled out a thrilling victory over the Raiders of MSOE, winning 3-2. The win over the Raiders marked the 200th career win for Sabercats' head coach Regina DeLozier.

The Basics

  • Results:
    • L 1-3 vs Macalaster
    • W 3-2 vs MSOE
  • Location: MSOE – Kern Center
  • Sabercats: now 6-4

Match-by-Match

  • L 1-3 vs Macalaster (25-20, 22-25, 22-25, 19-25)
    • After a winning start, the Sabercats could not keep the momentum going. Macalaster fought back to win three consecutive sets in what could only be described as a tightly-contested matchup. Alison Renz and Alexis Johnson combined for 31 kills in the match, but the Sabercats ran into trouble in the final set when they registered eight attacking errors to aid Macalaster in their win. After four tight sets in Milwaukee, the Sabercats had dropped their first match.
  • W 3-2 vs MSOE (25-16, 21-25, 25-17, 22-25, 15-10)
    • The Sabercats came out with all guns blazing in their second match, as they rolled to a nine-point win over MSOE in the first game. The Sabercats had cleaned up their hitting, as they recorded just one attacking error in the first set. Renz was on hand for 22 kills (38 on the night) and nine blocks while Alexis Johnson repeated her 15-kill tally from the Macalaster match. Julia Gunst kept the Raiders guessing as the senior setter picked up 32 assists and four kills on the match, while a scrappy Katie Bender notched 23 digs to lead the Sabercat defense. After a double tradeoff, the Sabercats came away with the win in the abbreviated fifth set when Kelsey Johnson ended the match with an ace.

From the Press Box

  • Renz's 22-kill tally was her highest this season
  • For the first time in 2016, Gunst broke into the thirties for assists (in both matches)
