WATERTOWN, Wis. -- The 2025 Maranatha Baseball Team posted the best record in 7 years for the program, as their five wins were a marker of the improvement and commitment the team showed through a challenging but exciting 2025 season.
After a bounce-back win at Principia to break into the win column on the second day of the season, the Sabercats fought through a difficult series at Eureka before Teddy Haugen grabbed headlines in a way that had everyone stopping to watch - the junior pitched the first no-hitter in 20 years for Maranatha Baseball, stuffing Viterbo in a 6-0 win.
With their second win under their belt, the Sabercats got their third win in an offensive clash, besting Knox 10-9 in southern Illinois.
Joe Anderson - known for his pitching - took the win that day and went 4-4 with 2 RBIs, fueling the Sabercats' exciting win in their final game of a 13-game road stint.
Don Wheeler logged his first collegiate home run in a 17-11 win over Martin Luther just a couple of weeks later, as the Sabercats came alive with their best offensive showing of the season, posting 17 hits - 5 for extra bases - with
Emerson Pease going 3-5 with 5 RBIs in the game.
Judson Martin jumped to number 2 all-time for Maranatha Baseball, notching his 110th career strikeout on a day to remember in his home state of Minnesota.
The final win came at home to the tune of 7-5 over Blackburn, on a day where
Teddy Haugen broke open the record books again, smashing his 9th career home run to set the program home runs record.
"This season has been a lot of firsts in my life, coming here to Maranatha, and so I'm really thankful to Coach
Tim Mielke for helping me along and answering a lot of questions that I had," said Head Coach
Jodi Faithfull at the winter/spring awards ceremony at Maranatha. "And I'm thankful to the three captains - Cam Curcuro,
Tim Nickels, and
Joe Anderson. Even before I came here to Maranatha, I was thankful for the opportunity and was concerned with making the most of it. So I wanted to use what I knew to make great men and good baseball players.
"Our season started out on the road and we had some decent success over the season. We also took our lumps at times. I challenged the guys to enjoy the competition. We'd been in the gym all spring long, and the opportunity to compete is like a test. It's not a test you have to take by yourself, you get to take it with your brothers. The guys persevered and were resilient. The first day we got crushed 15-1, and the next day we went out and had our first win of the season, and that really was a theme throughout the whole season. We had multiple guys get their first win for Maranatha, and moments like that made this season very, very sweet."
