STORY
MEQUON, Wis. -- The Ken Weidt Classic turned from a regular season-opening run to a Nationals-focused celebration, as the Sabercats Men's Squad and three individuals all met the qualifying standard for NCCAA Nationals. Andrew Dorothy, Douglas Smith, and Gini Cooper all met the individual standard while the men's squad had almost 9 minutes to spare in qualifying as a team.
Dorothy's finish was the best for the Sabercats' men's squad, as the freshman marked his first collegiate race with an 8K time of 32:48 - sustaining a 6:36 pace on average. The only other men's runner to meet the qualifying standard was Douglas Smith, who finished exacly one minute faster than the 34:00 qualifying standard. Tyler Lubner of Concordia-Wisconsin took home the gold for the hosts on the day, finishing with a time of 25:54. The Lawrence University Vikings won the men's race with a mere 24 points.
For the women, Gini Cooper qualified for NCCAA Nationals as an individual, finishing the 6K in 29 minutes and 23 seconds. Emma Ahrens finished first, representing the Concordina-Wisconsin Falcons with a time of 22:21 to edge last year's champion, Ainara Sainz de Rosas by 30 seconds. The CUW Falcons won the women's race with 24 points as well.
